Glue for playing cards?

Hello: I have need to repair an old gaff which will involve sticking a flap made of a smooth plastic-coated playing card onto another plastic-coated playing card with a thin strip of adhesive. This needs to be a permanent and a good bond. What glues would you suggest please? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hawaii's Craig Matsuoka published a monograph called "The Gaff Factory" in 2007. He used "dry mounting tissue (DMT)" to create his gaffed cards. You could look into that.

Years ago, based upon Bob's recommendation, I bought that label-maker. I used it twice and was unhappy with the results. The resultant card is too soft and doesn't have the proper snap.

Then I came to my senses and began using dry mount tissue and a commercial T-shirt press. Dry mount tissue is the gold standard. Accept no substitutes!

Erdnasephile, mail the gaff to me. I'll fix it for the cost of a stamp.

bill, in the video you are referring to don used both rubber cement and super 77 spray adhesive. the main reason was the fact that many of his gaffs had small pieces. however, he did make use of my dry mount equipment (which i obtained from ed brown in 1984) when it suited the assembly process.

Tom is right the sticker machine is no good if your sticking two thin pieces together since there is no center layer. However, I used the Double Decker cards from Card Shark (half as thin as a regular card) and a regular card to make double-facers and double-backers and it works well for that application.

I have no idea where you can find one and I don’t have myself, but Todd Lassen made the Lassen Card Gaffing Genii which was specifically designed to make gaffs using dry mount from poker sized cards using the genii and an iron to provide the heat.

Yes, the Card Gaffing Genii works great not only for heat but also for aligning cards when using glue. I suggested to Roy Kueppers that he should start making these.

I owned and sold two Lassen Card Geniis.

I much prefer Eoin O'Hare's Alignment Jig. It doesn't have a lid. That allows me to use my banding iron to tack the card layers in place before popping it into the T-shirt press.

Yes, that is dry mount tissue. I'm not familiar with that brand.
