Mini Out of This World

Postby Bob Farmer » September 15th, 2022, 8:15 am

In researching small packet versions of "Out of This World" I came across this one:

As usual with these Youtube guys, there are no credits.

Does anyone know who invented this?

In case you aren't familiar with it, I highly recommend Bruce Bernstein's Separation Anxiety

Interesting that the title is, "MINI OUT OF THIS WORLD Card Trick Revealed." I don't have any idea who invented it, but based on the transparency of the method, I would think that nothing more than the performance itself is necessary for the revelation.

I've only watched the first minute or so (and I shall watch the rest later), and the method was immediately obvious to me. However, I think that showing a lay audience several pairs of cards, each pair being a red and a black, they won't notice that the red-black pattern alternates. And I say that because there's an effect that I've performed countless times that uses a very similar display, and it's never aroused comment.

I have always thought the George Blake method of doing the trick is the best one. You TELL the people you are setting up the deck and do it right in front of them. I have been doing it this way for decades. I have learned only a tiny, tiny few things from lectures since these events bore the crap out of me. However, this must have been one of the few times I kept awake and I did learn this valuable information. Alas, I have no memory of who the lecturer was. It was a long, long time ago.

It seems to be an extension of an idea by Bill Simon in his book Mathematical Magic (1964) in which he forces the four queens

Might check out Tony Chaudhuri's Feminine Side, the Ron Bauer Private Studies #3. There's a display at the beginning that's not in the video.

Patrick Redford had a good small to larger OOTW called “Small World”.

David Britland identified it. The trick is "Ultimate 'Even Money' Proposition" by Nick Trost, pp.14-16, Subtle Card Creations, Volume 1, published by H&R books.

Once again, a censored Youtuber explains a trick that is not his and gives no credit.

And all seems to start with Even Money Proposition by Karl Fulves (Pallbearers, Vol. 4, no. 7, May 1969, page 257)
