Maskelyne's surprise visit to London c.1965

Postby Richard Stokes » March 7th, 2023, 4:10 pm

There is an anecdote that Jasper Maskelyne made a secret journey to London in the 1960s (possibly 1965?). Apparently, Patrick Page was working up front at the Davenport’s Magic Shop at 51 Great Russell St, opposite the main entrance to the British Museum, when Jasper Maskelyne suddenly appeared. This incident has been vouched for by Betty Davenport and Patrick Page’s daughter Janette.
Not long afterwards American magician Jay Marshall supposedly walked in and when told that the great magician had surprisingly surfaced, he went out trying to find him, but Maskelyne had vanished.
I've been told that an old FFFF videotape has Patrick Page referring to this incident.
I do know that Pat Page and Jay Marshall attended the 2004 FFFF. Maybe there are other years that they jointly attended.

I would appreciate if anyone can confirm this brief encounter.
Thanks

Mr. Page wrote about it in The Davenport Story Volume Three. He didn't mention the date.

Thanks, Joe.
John Davenport has now sent me the extract from the book you mentioned.
