Revelation/gag

Postby Philippe Billot » November 21st, 2023, 1:43 pm

I'm looking for the creator of this revelation/gag

You have the chosen card on the bottom of the deck and you hold it face up but you don't show the bottom card.

You say: "And now your card is in my breast pocket" showing your left side but you have no coat and your shirt have no breast pocket.

With your left hand (which hold the deck) you do as if you open the breast pocket et with our right hand, you do as if it goes inside and you remove the bottom card.

It's funny because some people don't notice that you don't have a breast pocket.

If you have a reference, thank in advance.

Bill Malone does something similar in his ambitious card routine "I don't even have a pocket," and attributes the move to Tarbell.

OK. I re-read Tarbell.

Thank you, Joe.

He didn't specify where in Tarbell.

Sounded like the no pocket part was his addition.

Dave Rumfelt seems to be the creator of the technique. That is remove the card from the deck and not from the pocket.

The gag of no pocket comes later.

It was described in 1987 by Roberto Giobbi in Fantasia in As-Dur, page 39

I'll bet Mr. Malone is referring to Tarbell #3 p.188 "Tommy Dowd's Card in the Pocket".

May be but it's not the same technique.

Jennings used it. Rumfelt is indeed the creator.

That's what a friend told me but as I couldn't find it, I took a side road.
Thanks to Denis Behr who referenced this little booklet by Roberto Giobbi.

At some entries, you find a reference back to the original 1974 publication: https://www.conjuringarchive.com/list/s ... ght=117405

(Never assume that the earliest entry one finds in a list is the first publication of something. I see this in publications all the time, and usually know exactly how some random and wrong references come about - by misusing tools like the Conjuring Archive.)

You are right, Denis. The best would be to write : "Actually, to my knowledge, untel is one of the first who do or describe this move or idea"

But is this case Dave Rumfelt seems to be the first, even in 1974.

In my defense, I do not own the MUM magazine collection...UNFORTUNATLY!!! And I appreciate all your work; Conjuring Archive and Conjuring Credits.
